More from the Farm

As promised, here are some more of the photos I took at my brother's farm a few weeks ago...

This one is probably my favorite - looking out from one of the barns onto the fields...

Here's a few from inside the big barn featured in the last post:

The room originally used for hay is empty...

The other rooms have stuff in them, because my brother is a pack-rat with too many projects on his list, most of the projects being cars...

This is inside the silo, looking up...

And this is on top of the barn...

Like any farm, there are stray cats that my brother and his girlfriend are now feeding and taking care of. This one has chosen my brother as the center of her world...

This one has chosen his girlfriend to follow around and meow at...

Surprisingly, Pete hasn't eaten either one of them yet.

Pete absolutely loves the farm, loves running through the fields and following the tractor all day.

My mother spent most of the day riding around the property on the tractor's one fender.

A cushion has been affixed for comfort...

I got up there for a ride too...

The bench featured in the last post is a very good resting spot...

It overlooks a tiny pond...

Group shots are always fun...

I may try to go back to the farm this weekend.

It's my new favorite place :)

I can see why you like it. There is something honest about a farm.

And humble.

I love that picture of the window from the inside too. Awesome.

(and you are quite the cutie, my dear...)

Hi Scott! Honest and humble... well said. I've always been drawn to mountains and trails, and even beaches, but I'd never realized how much beauty exists in rolling fields. I was surprised that I loved it so much.
And thank you for the compliment -you sure know how to make a girl smile ;)

You have that unique way of bringing out the beauty from the most overlooked objects, Tammie. The silo (it is the inside of one, right?) worm's-eye shot is my favorite.

Keep it up! =)

What a wonderful place! Great pics too, especially the window. It's good to see you smile.

Hi Houseband! And thank you! I do believe there's beauty everywhere if we take the time to notice. Funny, I think as a child I'd always wondered what it would look like inside a silo :)

Hi Vicki! I'll tell you a secret... the window picture is two photos combined. I set up the tripod and took one with a quick shutter speed to capture the outside view (which resulted in the inside being completely black), and then I took another with a slow shutter speed to get the wood tones inside (which made the outside appear blindingly white). I knew it would be tricky but I like the combined result.
And yes, even just figuring that all out and the subsequent photoshopping later on does make me smile. And the fresh air and the family helps too :)

I love those photos. The one looking out the window of the barn has great colors and detail.
And the rest just make me feel happy to see.
I need a couple days in the country.
Hmm... maybe wine country.

Looks like a great place to hide out at.

It looks like some really great land, and peaceful too.

The pictures of the barn are really amazing.

I am going around and catching up. The are fantastic photographs, I think you should visit more often and de stress. What a great place your brother has. You have a lot of talent behind the lens.

Hi Atypical! Mmmm... wine country sounds like fun! Can I come too? :)

Hi Patty O! Thanks so much!

Hi Silver! Yeah, exactly... the "real world" can't find you in a place like that.

Hi Travis! Yes, it's very peaceful there. I like that old barn - it's got a lot of character. I'd like to spend more time photographing it next time.

Hi Bankerchick! I agree - I need to spend more time behind the camera and more time destressing out in the fresh air.

Hey, I put a link to your blog on mine, just so you know.

Thanks Patty O - I've got a link to you too :)

Hey, not to get techie, but what kinda' camera are you using?

Tammie Jean said...

Hi Hazmatt! It's a Nikon D200. It's not a convenient, keep-in-your-pocket kind of camera, but I like to have more control over settings, etc.

Looks like a nice place. I don't think I'd want to live on a farm but it would be fun to visit one from time to time.

The light in that barn is beautiful.

Hi VE! No, I wouldn't want to live on a farm either, but it's definitely fun to visit.

Hi Puss! I know, isn't it? I have more photo projects planned for that barn...

tammie jean ~ I loved the shots from the farm. My favorite one was the one looking up through the silo though. GREAT SHOT! ~ jb///

Hi JB! And thank you! I like that one too - the perspective and the color came out nicely :)

Pretty nice for a weekend get away place. What does your brother do for a living? Does he live in the city normally? I wouldn't if I was him.

You have some very nice pictures! I'm glad to have come here by chance.
I like the way you focus on the lights.

I agree with many of the comments here ... what grabs me in many of these photos is the quality of the light juxtaposed against the darkness. It gives everything a warm, wrapped-in-a-quilt-with-a-mug-of-hot-tea feel. And nice job of capturing the breadth and depth of a working farm ... you make it feel like the idea retreat from life's worries. Which it clearly has been for you.

Kiyotoe said...

those are great shots of a great looking family (is your brother in the NFL or a pro wrestler or something. That's a big dude).

Your pictures make the farm look so peaceful, but I've been to a cousin's farm and I couldn't find a bit of peace for miles and miles....

Hi Malathionman! My brother is a blue-collar worker, a regular guy who works hard and saves his money. He bought his house when he was only 22, and invested in the farm at 36.

Hi Mother Hen! Nice to meet you - I'm so glad you stopped by :) I'll be sure to pay you a visit as well...

Hi Ninja! Wow, I like that - "wrapped-in-a-quilt-with-a-mug-of-hot-tea." I try very hard to capture the light, so I appreciate the compliment! :)

Hi Kiyotoe! Yeah, my brother is a big dude! His farm is peaceful, though. Not much going on there. Not much to do. Just fresh air and walks and picnics up by the pond. I like it :)

I'm glad you've found a place to spend some time that feels good for you. It is a beautiful place - very serene-looking. That silo photo is stunning.

Tammie Jean said...

Hi CS! Yes, the farm been a good haven recently - I've been there several times now. Between getting outdoors and taking lots of pictures, I've been feeling pretty good :)
